Magazine cover for horror trailer.

This is the finished magazine cover i have created, using photoshop, for my horror trailer. I have changed my original plan for the front cover to have a image of a victim from the film with the shadow of the threat seen on the wall behind him because of circumstances beyond my control. However I have gone for an image of the director (me) for the front cover with the cover advertising an exclusive insight to the "Scariest film of the year" from the director of the film. One thing i would mainly like to change about this cover is the picture size. The picture was taken in landscape which is not conventional for a magazine cover, so if given the choice i would like to re-shoot the picture into portrait so it will meet the typical conventions of a magazine cover.

EDIT

New magazine cover.

I was given an oportunity to change my original magazine cover in the hoped of getting a higher grade and was able to create this new magazine cover. I have gone for the traditional magazine cover with a large image of a character out of the featured movie with verious other articles advertised on the front cover to pull the audience into buying the magazine. The image i have used issupposed to show a victim in the film that has been cornered and pushed up against the wall by the threat of th film. I steel bar is slightly visable in the persons right hand.

Trailer for Horror film.

This is the trailer, made using Sony Vegas 8.0, that i have created for my media coursework. The trailer does not give much away about the film which is what I was aiming for as I wanted to keep the film fairly mysterious to the audience. I am quite happy with how the trailer turned out but there are a few things I would like to change such as the sound effects in places and I would change some of the editing.

Movie Trailer Story boards

These are the two story board sheets I have produced that show the basic outline of my trailer. I have gone into slight detail about the shots I will use and the events that will unfold in each panel. I have been fairly realistic in this story board in the hope that I will be able to make a trailer that looks the same on paper as it does on screen.

Film magazine cover.

This is a magazine cover that is advertising the new James Bond film. The main image on the magazine cover is of the main character of the film that is being featured. Since Daniel Craig is a very recognisable character in the James Bond sequence people will see this image an instantly be drawn in to possible buying the magazine. The sub heading that are placed down, mainly, the rigt hand side of he cover are something else i would also like to include in my magazine cover. These give the magainze an opportuity to further pull the audience into the magazine by giving a breif look into articles, stories and possible special prices or opportunities that may be featured inside. Magazine cover oftenly only fature a few main colours so to not complicate of over load the front cover and keep it looking professional. This is something i will ave to take into consideration when creating my magazine and take care top create an impacting yet simple colour scheme.

On this post I have briefly gone into detail about the two main kinds of magazine covers that I would consider following. I am leaning more towards the empire special edition cover

This is a look through of a cover that i liked from an existing magazine that I would like to create myself. I have listen things that liked from this cover and what i would take into my own cover. s, as I feel they will be easier to create and also help me keep that level of mystery I am aiming to maintain.

Changing of production idea!!

Recently I have decided to change the idea for my film trailer task. Instead of going for a zombie horror theme to a more shock horror. My new idea is to make a trailer about a hidden neighbourhood that is discovered by three teens by accident. They enter the hood through a dark subway tunnel (as seen on my poster) After entering through this tunnel things take a turn for the worse after they are hunted down by the residents of the hood and are split up into two groups. Following the conventions of a teen horror all of the men are killed off before then end with only the dark haired girl surviving the ordeal. As planned with my first trailer idea i will still be keeping the deep level of mystery in the trailer to make it all the more interesting to the audience and drive them to want to see the whole film.

Poster

Here is my hopefully finished product for my movie trailer teaer poster.I have decided to stick witha a very simple design for the poster. I have done this so not much is given away about the film is given away in the poster, I have decided also to not include the name of the film. This again is to add more mistery to the film, and also to cause more curiosity about the poster, causeing people to question what it is for and there for causing them to want to find out what it is for.

Originally for this poster i added the name of the film across the middle of the poster as shown below:

I decided to take the text out of the poster as i thought it over done the picture slightly and distracted from the two characters standing in the background of the shot. Also it helps keep the level of mystery I am aiming for for my poster and trailer.

Here is another font that i decided to try out on the poster after the first one, but like the first one it still distracted from the main image.

EDIT:
Here on this new version of the film psoter i have changed and added a couple of features. I have decided to remove the blur from the image to make the image look more clear and sharper. I have also added a small pool of dryed blood at the feet of the mysterious character in the forground of the poster. I have decieed to do this to further add to the horror film theme of the poster and also add more questioning to the poster, like where did the blood come from and does it suggest future events in the film?

Photo's for Teaser Poster

The two pictures above are two of the pictures that i will be using for my poster. The lighting is very good in these two pictures and you can see everything in the frame very clearly, also the stance of the monster over the camera is exactly what I had envisioned in my plan. However I will have to edit this picture to make the lighting a bit darker and look grimier to add to the horror effect I am aiming for.
These are two reject pictures that I took but will not be using as they have various faults. Firstly the lighting is two dark making it so you can see the man standing over the camera clearly but you cannot see the two people standing in the background of the picture. One thing i liked about these pictures however is how the lighting on the ceiling stands out and is emphasised from the rest of the lighting in the picture, I may try and incorporate this into my finished product.

Movie poster research.

This is a look at some horror movie posters that have inspire me towards making the poster I want to make. Also here are some other poster i have looked at...

Class feedback.

Inspiring texts for movie trailer!

Here I have created a quick mood board that shows some of the texts that I have watched or studied in relation to the trailer I wish to create.
The reasons I have looked at these 6 texts in particular are because they all have the same sort of zombie/monster theme I aim to create a trailer for. I’ve looked through these six films to get ideas for: costumes, characters, settings, music and the main monster character that I want to be a cross between the monster from "Frankenstein" and a zombie from the film 28 weeks later. (when bitten by the zombie the person becomes infected)

The "Don’t be afraid of the dark" trailer is very much along the same lines of what I hope to produce for my trailer. What i liked about this trailer is the way in which you never really find out until the very last seconds of the trailer what the overall threat in the film is, even when you are showed the creature at the end it is still uncertain what it is. I also like the way the trailer is constructed: such as how sections of the film are cut together using rapid fade in/outs. Along with the sort snappy clips this makes the trailer very mysterious and it doesn’t give too much away about the film, but it still compelled me to want to see it

"The Grudge 2" trailer. Something i found useful from this trailer was how editing is used to make the trailer seem more tense and horrifying. During moments of suspense in the trailer flashes of white and black are used to help build up the tense. The flashes are mainly used in the trailer when the Grudge is on screen. This could have been done to make the audience feel uneasy when the Grudge is on screen and make the feel as they would if they saw the actual film.
I hope that I can take ideas from both of these trailers such as: The element of mystery created by the "Don’t be afraid of the dark" trailer and also the uneasy feeling that is created by "The Grudge 2" trailer.

The third trailer i viewed in research for my media trailer was The Women In Black (For some reason when ever the trailer is included onto this post it crases the editing process so i feel it is best not to include it) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lReemWmO5o

Something i liked alot about this trailer was the score used in the background of the trailer. Although the music is very calming and relaxed it brings with it a scary element that emphasises the tension that is built up in the trailer in relation to the clips that can be seen on screen. The pase of the trailr also interested me. The trailer starts off slow and then quickens towards the end showing very brief parts of the film in a montage style. This alows the audeince to get an idea what the film is about in the beginning without giving to much of the middle of the ending of the film away.

Mood Board: Characters/locations.

In this mood board i go into brief detail about the locations that I would like to use in my trailer, the styles of characters i would like to use (with some examples of what inspired my choice of characters) and also a brief look at sound ideas such as music, and various other typical horror trailer sounds.

Horror trailer pitch.

Horror trailer pitch

What I would like to achieve is to create a trailer for a new and upcoming horror film. The plot I would like to include in this trailer is: Two mad scientists have created a monster that is mainly human but they have created him to be faster and strong then themselves. This creates a problem when the monster escapes killing one of the scientist in its rampage. The monster escapes into the streets of the and begins a small scale killing spree in a rural town in the country side. The trailer ends when two people are chased into an underground tunnel by the monster, believing they are safe they stop running and but this is when the monster appears behind them and screams are heard as the trailer cuts out to black. In this trailer also I want to keep the monster as mysterious as possible but at the same time still give it a presence that shocks/scares the audience. My reason for doing this is to give a level of mystery to the trailer and also letting the audiences imagination run away with them as to what the monster might or might not be, this will also mean the trailer could have different impacts on different people depending on how they see the monster.

Shot types that I would like to use in this trailer are: Hand held camera action, long shots, close ups and extreme close ups. I feel that with these shot types I will be able to display the emotion and the terror the characters are experiencing (close/extreme close ups) while also making the events seem vivid by using hand held camera shots for tense scenes. Longs shots would allow for audience to see in full view the characters included in the trailer, and also some of the setting in which the film will be set in.

I have various inspirations that have lead me to come up with this idea. My main inspiration for this trailer is the 1818 novel Frankenstein (Mary Shelley) In which a monster is re-animated out of spare body parts from a near by grave yard. However I have also taken inspiration from various zombie films such as: “28 weeks later” and “Automaton Transfusion“. In these two films zombies are the main threat and they have an uncontrollable desire to devour everyone in sight. From these two films I will take the zombie style idea in which when a human is bitten by the beast they become infected. As for Frankenstein I will be basing my main monster on the monster out of the book itself, using its super human body shape and height and also its almost unbearable ugliness to create a horrifying beast.

As for other characters in my film such as the scientist that have created the monster I will be sticking to a basic stereotype for scientists for the way they look and dress. So for example: White coats, glasses, mess appearance ect. Also a basic persona of these characters is: They are two young scientist (Henry and Patrick) looking for a solution for eternal life and they believe they have found it with this experiment, however they are horrified when it goes terrible wrong and the experiment becomes violent and blood thirsty. For the two civilian characters that will feature in the trailer I will be using a young teenage couple (man and women) my reason for this is it is fairly popular for teens to star in horror films and for there to be men and women. These to characters (Matty and Nikki) are simply two victims of the monster. In the trailer they will be seen running into a subway tunnel in which they think they have escaped from the monster. Upon leaving the tunnel the monster drops down from above and begins to attack the couple, killing Matty but Nikki manages to escape and tell people about what has happened to her sparking off the main narrative in which the hunt for the monster begins.

Locations I will need to find for this trailer are: Some sort of room or building in which I could make look like a lab where the monster has been created. One of my ideas for this location was to use college after hours when it would be dark outside. There are also other areas in the college grounds that I could use for this trailer such as the forested areas, as it would give the trailer more of a horror feeling. I will also need to find a location for the closing of the of the trailer. For this shot I will need some sort of subway tunnel of underground tunnel. One of the main features the tunnel must have is it must be dark and fairly long to add to the scare factor of the trailer.
