How effective is my main product together with the ancillary texts?

How effective is your main product together with you  ancillary texts?

The three texts I have create are all based around the same urban horror style. One of the main theme’s I have carried through out the production of my horror package is mystery and enigma.

My main product (horror trailer) in it’s self does not give very much away about the movie. No characters are established or named and the audience don’t even get a chance to see what the main threat looks like or how in fact he is a threat. Locations are also not precisely defined in the trailer, however some locations can be easily diagnosed.

My magazine cover carry’s a lot of the same elements as my trailer. The audience is not told who the character is, whether is relevant to the story or where he is. One thing I do differently in this product is tell the name of the film, however I only did this to stick to the typical conventions of a film magazine cover. Apart from this however the mystery is still kept on the front of the magazine cover.

The horror poster I created is maybe the most mysterious of the three texts I created. The basic shot iv used shows only the bottom half of the main threat and a very unclear view of the two characters in the background.

Along with the ancillary texts my main trailer can be see having a good and effective impact on the audience. If a member of the public was to see the poster or the magazine cover the mysteriousness may cause them to go and watch the trailer. The mystery from the magazine cover and the poster continues on into the trailer which will still leave the audience wanting more causing them to want to go see the main movie.

What have I learnt from my audience feedback?

From my feedback i have learnt some good things i have done in my work and also people have pointed out thing that they did not like that i could change if i ever had to do this task again.

Firstly for my trailer poster this is the feedback I got...
From this feedback the general vibe was the people that looked at it liked the general idea and style of the poster. One thing commented on several times was the pose in the picture of the man standing over the camera and the two people in the background standing under the legs of the mysterious man. The colour was also commented on such as how the deep colour of the blood contrasts with the lighter and more urban colour of the whole picture. The genre also seemed to be identifiable to the audience becuase of the colour and the poses in the picture.

From the comments on this video people appear to have liked the trailer however many faults have been pointed out. One of the point was that the trailer has hard to follow or understand in parts. This is because of the mysterious theme i tried to keep across my work. However because of this it has made the trailer harder to understand, so if i was to do this again i would make the trailer more understandable and add more scene into it that show more or the narrative unfolding and more hints towards characters and events. Another problem picked up on was the texted that was used to seperate scenes from one another, people commented saying i could have used a more fitting font for the genre of the film.

From these comments I have found there are several good and bad points to the horror trailer. Something I would much like to inprove is the font used in text titles. Sadly I did not leave myself enough time when editing the trailer and could not go to great length on text and was mainly focused on finishing the trailer to a god standard.
